Starting New Adventures

 Hello Folks,


Calamity Jane and I have started our journey. To ease into it, I asked friends Bob and Lynn if I could stay in their driveway for two nights in Sunnyvale, my old neighborhood when I was a teenager. Bob helped me with a few van upgrades, they took me to an amazing Irish Pub for lunch, supported me, cooked home-made meals that were delicious and threw in access to their bathroom for a nice warm shower.  I couldn't have chosen a better first stop. Bob, Lynn and their son Ian are wonderful, loving people that have been there for me always and I am extremely grateful to them. 

Today, I went to Wilder Ranch State Park. Bob and Lynn recommended it. The ocean is so healing. After a short hike to the beach, I headed to my next stop. It is an overnight stay in a driveway in Santa Cruz. It's like Air BNB, but driveway surfing. The pic of me by the van is in Santa Cruz.

I'll be posting again when I have new pics and new things to report.

  Calamity Jane's Goodwill Adventures There's a new girl in town and her name is Calamity Jane, my new camper van. We are going to hit the road in about two weeks and join other boondockers in the camper van craze of the Wild West. Well, the West is where Calamity and I will start our series of adventures. Calamity Jane  has always been known for her friendliness, generosity and happy cordial manner. Arrived in Asheville, NC!

 Hello Family and Friends!             (If you have had trouble commenting....try now - I changed things up) I stayed overnight in Knoxville and then headed East. I arrived at my sister's home in Asheville, NC. So happy to see her! I have a few stories for you. As you know I am often staying at Cracker Barrel Restaurants overnight in their parking lots for free. I showed up at the one in Memphis awhile back. Well....I walked up to the hostess station and told the young girl that I didn't see any signs that I usually see, ones that say you can stay overnight. She said it would not be a good idea to stay over. She thought I was asking to stay INSIDE the restaurant to sleep!! I quickly clarified that I was in a CAMPER VAN and it was the PARKING LOT I was interested in, not pitching a tent and roasting s'mores inside. Ha ha. Flagstaff, Arizona

Hello Family and Friends, Arrived in Flagstaff yesterday and stayed on tribal land that was connected to "Harvest Hosts" - an app that allows campers to stay overnight and leave a modest donation or help out in some way...like a barter and trade arrangement. I made some dinner and turned in after watching some movies on the DVD player (no internet signal there). When I woke up it was a chilly 39 degrees. Thankfully, I used my secret weapon, a down comforter, a nice blanket and a great sleeping bag. The mountain view from my camping spot was spectacular. I got up and had coffee, did my morning stretch to R.Carlos Nakai and proceeded to organize and clean up to get on the road.  I headed to Walnut Canyon National Monument and hiked the rim trail visited the cliff dwellings that were inhabited over 800 years ago.
