Flagstaff, Arizona

Hello Family and Friends,

Arrived in Flagstaff yesterday and stayed on tribal land that was connected to "Harvest Hosts" - an app that allows campers to stay overnight and leave a modest donation or help out in some way...like a barter and trade arrangement. I made some dinner and turned in after watching some movies on the DVD player (no internet signal there). When I woke up it was a chilly 39 degrees. Thankfully, I used my secret weapon, a down comforter, a nice blanket and a great sleeping bag. The mountain view from my camping spot was spectacular. I got up and had coffee, did my morning stretch to R.Carlos Nakai and proceeded to organize and clean up to get on the road.

I headed to Walnut Canyon National Monument and hiked the rim trail visited the cliff dwellings that were inhabited over 800 years ago. At one point, there was a mass exodos after the tribe/clans had depleted the land of timber and farming land. In the early 1900's, curious folk decided to make this area a novelty and some decided to loot and even destroy some of the dwellings to fight over artifacts left behind. There's a place here called Walnut Creek... just not the one in California.

I explored Flagstaff for a bit and had a few errands to run. I was at a store and in the parking lot and saw a $50 bill on the ground. I looked around, no one there and kept it. I decided to go get a haircut. As I was watching the stylist work her ass off, I decided that I would do a good deed and gave her the $50. It made her cry....me too. My good deed for the day.

I arrived at my friend Janean's home in Flagstaff around 5:00 p.m. She was in Phoenix and returning tonight, so her son Brendan welcomed me in and we went out and got some dinner to bring home. We are watching the Lakers beat the Warriors. Good for Brendan, bad for me. Boo hoo.

I will be spending some time with Janean tomorrow and then off to Sedona on Monday see my friend Maudelle.
